ROWLAND UNIFIED ANNOUNCES THAT SANTANA HIGH SCHOOL NAMED
AS A CALIFORNIA 2020 MODEL CONTINUATION HIGH SCHOOL
LA PUENTE, CA – FEBRUARY 25, 2020 – Rowland Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Julie Mitchell announced today that Santana High School was named a 2020 California Model Continuation High School. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond released that Santana High School is one of 43 schools in the State recognized for their innovative approach to instruction that help and support students who have faced many challenges get back on the pathway to learning and achievement. The 43 schools selected as a Model Continuation High School (MCHS) retain their designation for three years and will be recognized at the 2020 CCEA State Conference in San Diego on May 1–3, 2020.
“The Board of Education and I are extremely proud of this achievement for Santana High School that recognizes the dedication and support our teachers and staff play in the lives of students every day to encourage and support them to succeed against all odds,” said Mitchell.
Students at Santana High School are offered quality programs and services to support their success in school and beyond. Students benefit from the ability to access learning through a variety of class scheduling options, including the ability to access community college classes on the high school campus, as well as general academic and counseling support, all as a means to foster academic and personal growth. Santana teachers, administration and staff create a welcoming environment for students and their families which promotes effective two-way communication and a partnership between the home and school to support student learning. In 2018-19, Santana partnered with the RUSD adult school allowing students an additional opportunity to recover credits toward graduation. They also partnered with Mt. San Antonio College to allow students earn college credit by being concurrently enrolled. A new ten-week Robotics class was also designed for students to learn how to build and program a robot while learning mathematical concepts of speed, patterns, and arithmetic.

Our entire team has made a commitment to increase the number of graduates, meet the social emotional needs of our students, and to provide a post-secondary plan for each and every student. We are very appreciative that we have been recognized for the hard work that we have done to this point on our journey.”
Santana High School is a fully accredited high school and has enjoyed the California State Department of Education's designation as a Model Continuation High School for multiple years beginning in 1992. MCHS Recognition Program is a collaborative partnership between the California Department of Education (CDE) and the California Continuation Education Association (CCEA). The program honors continuation high schools for the comprehensive services they provide at-risk youth through instructional strategies, flexible scheduling, guidance, and counseling.
