Dear Rowland Unified Community,

We would like to remind you that, as a school district, we are solely focused on providing our students with a world-class education that prepares them for the future of their choice. We strive to provide an environment where all students, families, and employees feel safe and are integral to this mission. Here in the Rowland Unified School District, we remain focused and dedicated to every student, every day.

Recent developments in federal immigration policies have created uncertainty, fear, and anxiety for many in our community. At Rowland Unified School District, our core values are student-centered, integrity, equity, inclusion, community and excellence. These principles guide everything we do and reflect our belief that every student deserves to feel valued, supported, and secure in their educational journey.

In alignment with RUSD Board Policy 5145.13 and California Education Code:

  • Our district does not collect or maintain information regarding students’ or families’ immigration status.
  • Every student is entitled to a free public education, and we are committed to upholding their rights, regardless of their immigration or citizenship status.
  • We strive to create schools that are safe and welcoming spaces for all students and families, free from discrimination, harassment, or intimidation.

We recognize that the current climate may feel overwhelming for many in our community, and we are here to provide support. To help our community navigate these circumstances, we have compiled the following resources in partnership with the Los Angeles County Office of Education and California Department of Education:

  • National Child Traumatic Stress Network: Resources to help families and caregivers support students who have experienced trauma or separation.
  • MHASF Warm Line: The Mental Health Association provides counseling support over the phone in English, Spanish and Chinese through text (855-600-9276) as well as directly through a chat feature on their website.

Our counselors are also available to provide individualized guidance and care for any student experiencing fear or stress. Please know that you are not alone. We will work together to support an environment where every student, family, and staff member feels safe and empowered to learn. Thank you for being an essential part of our Rowland Unified family.

Sincerely,

Alejandro Flores
